This is Space Empires news reported in 2006. I've gone through some of the older links to make sure they still point to functional sites and files if possible.


19 December 2006:
A small update to the Balance Mod to v1.01 is now available. It's compatible with v1.20 of SE:V and features a few fixes and tweaks. Download the Mod HERE. The next update should be in a few weeks time barring any problems with the current version.


18 December 2006:
A fourth patch For Space Empires V is now available and will update the game to version 1.20! It has lots of fixes and some other improvements. You can download the v1.20 patch from Strategy First HERE.


10 December 2006:
Balance Mod v1.00 is now available for download. This new version includes the usual fixes along with some changes to the Ship and Engine systems. There were also a few additions such as small racial trait armors and extra descriptions for seekers. Check the history file for a full list of changes. 26 November 2006:
There's been another update to the Balance Mod. Version 0.99 makes a number of fixes and some small changes, as well as some major improvements to AI diplomacy. The AI will now offer treaty packages that make sense! Download the updated mod HERE.


20 November 2006:
The Balance Mod has been updated to version 0.98 and includes a number of fixes for a few snafus in v0.97 and adds compatibility for SE:V v1.17. You can download the mod HERE. Still on the to-do list is improved AI Diplomacy!


20 Novemeber 2006:
The third patch For Space Empires V is now available and will update the game to version 1.17! It has a number of fixes and other improvements. You can download the 1.17 patch from Strategy First HERE.


17 November 2006:
The next update to the Balance Mod has been uploaded. Version 0.97 features a number of AI improvements to ship design and colony infrastructure. You can download the mod HERE. The next version will be out shortly after the next patch for SE:V. I'm hoping to improve AI diplomacy for that update.


09 November 2006:
A quick version of the Balance Mod has been posted. Version 0.96 makes a couple of little fixes, reduces combat time to help with AI processing times, and adds some more flexibility to AI designs. Grab the update HERE.


08 November 2006:
Version 0.95 of the Balance Mod is now available for download. This version is compatible with Space Empires V 1.13 and features some changes to armor and a few ship types, as well as improved research files for the AI. Download the update HERE.


07 November 2006:
Aaron Hall of Malfador Machinations stopped by the #SpaceEmpires IRC Channel for a brief chat about Space Empires V and other stuff. You can find a log of the chat HERE!


06 Novemeber 2006:
The second patch is now available for Space Empires V and will update the game to version 1.13. It has a number of fixes and other improvements. You can get the 1.13 patch from Strategy First HERE.


04 November 2006:
Another update to the Balance Mod is available. Version 0.94 helps out AI research and makes a couple of little fixes here and there. Grab the updated version HERE. The next version will be released with the next SE:V patch early next week. Also, a quick thanks for all the feedback and bug reporting you guys have done! It certainly makes my job easier.


02 November 2006:
Fyron has finally posted version 0.16.00 of his Adamant Mod, which was like 2 years in the making and I think finally adds AI support for Machine and Energy races. You can visit the mod's site and download it HERE.


27 October 2006:
Another update has been made to the Balance Mod. Version 0.93 makes a few changes to the AI and fixes a few items that crept up. Download the updated version HERE.


27 October 2006:
An updated Space Empires V demo is available at Strategy First. It still has a 100-turn limit and you can't mod the default data files. It's a 128Mb download you can get HERE!


24 October 2006:
I've posted an update to the Balance Mod. Version 0.92 improves AI shipbuilding and sort of improves AI expansion, while fixing a few bugs and making some adjustements to supply/ordnance and maintenance. You can find out more and download it from its page HERE. More updates soon!



17 October 2006:
An updated version of the Balance Mod v0.90 is now available. This version is compatible with Space Empires V v1.08 and is the first official release of the Balance Mod. You can find out more and download it from its page HERE.



17 October 2006:
The first patch is now available for Space Empires V and will update the game to version 1.08. It has a ton of fixes and UI improvements. An updated Demo is expected later this week. You can get the 1.08 patch from Strategy First HERE.

An updated version of the Balance Mod will be posted soon.


11 October 2006:
A special version of the Balance Mod is now available for the SE:V v1.00 release. You can find out more about the mod and download it from its page HERE.



10 October 2006:
Strategy First is now accepting pre-orders for Space Empires V for $39.99 US which includes a free copy of Star Fury, Find out more HERE. A version of the Balance Mod that will be compatible for version 1.00 of Space Empires will be made shortly.


05 October 2006:
Greetings! If you're a regular visitor to the Space Empires Depot, you might notice a few changes here and there - including a shift in focus towards Space Empires V. I've also created a new page for the SE:V Balance Mod, a mod I made for SE:V to address imbalance and other silliness in the stock data files. It won't be available until the game is released and first patch is out - so around mid-October. Find out more HERE.

25 September 2006:
Strategy First has published a Space Empires V Newsletter with some tidbits like concept artwork and info about upcoming SE:V contests. You can read the newsletter HERE.


22 September 2006:
Atrocities has released a new version (1.9.4.2) of the Star Trek Mod, which features an improved AI and a number of big organizational changes. You can grab the full version of mod HERE. It's a 29Mb download and requires the Image Pack if you don't already have it!


18 September 2006:
A new Space Empires website has been launched as the official site for Space Empires V. There's a lot of features designed to encourage community building and fan contributions. While the site is still a work-in-progress, you can register and post in the forums. Visit the website HERE.


15 September 2006:
The Space Empires V demo is now available at Strategy First. The major limitations are that you can only play 100 turns and you can't change the default files. It's a hefty download at 128MB and you can get it HERE! The game itself should be available by Mid-October.


13 September 2006:
I added a new mod to my website today called Kwok's Galaxy Mod. It's actually work adapted from my Space Food Empires mod that hasn't had the chance to be released yet. Including with the mod are lots of new system types and dozens of new graphics. You can download and learn more from the mod's page HERE.


03 September 2006:
The Space Empires V purported features page has been updated. This will probably be the last update before the game is released. You can find it HERE.



02 September 2006:
Strategy First has declared a month of Space Empires. According to the press release, SE:V is due out in late September. There will also be contests for Best Mod, Best Fan site, SE:IV Trivia, as well as a special promotional price on SE:IV Deluxe.


15 August 2006:
Malfador Machinations has posted the details for adding new Empire Styles (Ship sets) to Space Empires V. Included is a snapshot of a number of the data files including some of the AI script files. Check it out HERE.

Malfador Machinations continues to work on Space Empires V and says they are working towards an August release date.



12 June 2006:
Captain Kwok is happy to present 12 new exclusive SE:V screenshots for the upcoming Space Empires V! Check out the SE:V screenshots HERE. The SE:V feature list has also been updated in a few places, which you can look at HERE. Enjoy!


28 April 2006:
There are 8 new screenshots from Space Empires V posted at the Malfador Machinations website, including some shots of stellar manipulation and combat. I'll post an update to the SE:V features list in a few days to correspond to some of new info that might be contained in the pics!


05 April 2006:
Aaron Hall of Malfador Machinations has responded to a number of questions from the community about Strategy First's acquisition of MM and the Space Empires series. It looks like all our doom and gloom scenarios were a bit rash. You can read his responses at Spaceempires.net HERE.


04 April 2006:
According to a report by Wargamer.com, Strategy First has acquired Malfador Machinations and its intellectual property rights. Aaron Hall is to take a management role in directing the Space Empires franchise. Certainly unexpected news, but we'll see what happens over the next few days.


01 April 2006:
A retail version of Space Empires IV Deluxe will be available April 6 at Gamestop for the bargain price of $19.99! No info on when it will be available at Best Buy or at a Canadian retailer.


31 March 2006:
A new version of the People's Mod for Star Fury is available. It's version 0.40 and makes a ton of fixes, vastly improving the stability of the mod. You can find out more about the new release and download it from HERE.


22 March 2006:
A boxed version of Space Empires Deluxe is finally available at Strategy First's online store HERE. The boxed version will be released in stores, including Gamestop and Best Buy, in the near future.


02 March 2006:
There are a few minor issues with the 1.95 patch in that mods with their own \pictures\game\dialogs folder will cause an error that will prevent the game from loading. You can correct this by copying the StartMenu.bmp from the default \pictures\game\dialogs folder to the mod's \pictures\game\dialogs folder until a new patch is released.


01 March 2006:
A patch to update Space Empires IV Deluxe from version 1.94 to 1.95 is available at the Strategy First website. It's a small patch that fixes a couple of bugs and adds a new startup menu. Find the patch HERE.


25 February 2006:
In an impromptu visit to the #SpaceEmpires IRC channel, Aaron Hall of Malfador Machinations indicated there will be another patch for Space Empires IV Deluxe - which we should expect to coincide with the long awaited release of the boxed version in Mid-March by Strategy First.


20 February 2006:
An interview with Malfador Machinations about SE:V has been posted at TBS game site Orion Sector. You can find the interview HERE. Again, I've taken the opportunity to update the SE:V info section HERE.


12 February 2006:
Malfador Machinations has posted some new information about SE:V, including a June 2006 release date. MM also listed some features of SE:V and improvements over SE:IV! Check it out HERE. Also be sure to check out the SE:V info section here at the depot for some more tidbits! It's HERE.


04 February 2006:
The Space Food Empires website has been updated with the technology and graphics section receiving lots of new material. You can check it out HERE.

Happy Belated New Year. It's been a slow month for Space Empires news so I haven't updated the site really since I've been back. I'm hoping to add some new content soon, but until then you can amuse yourself by visiting the SE:Wiki photo exchange HERE.
